Keep a record that can be reviewed
For a simple cash drawer, expected close equals opening float plus cash sales and other cash in, minus cash refunds, paid-out amounts and cash drops. Use the same cutoff and currency for every figure, and compare actual counted cash with that expected amount.
Before your team uses it
- Record the currency in the title or add a currency column.
- Keep cash drops out of the closing drawer count and record them separately.
- Use actual count minus expected close as the variance convention.
- Keep evidence references for payouts and record the reviewer without including bank account details.
Adapt it to your process
This blank log does not calculate balances or connect to a till. Separate card payments from cash and avoid counting a movement twice if the POS report already nets it. Adapt the fields to your documented cash-handling process.
